We're delighted to welcome Dr Thibaud Giddey to the GloCoBank research team from 1 July 2021. Thibaud joins us a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Global Correspondent Banking 1870-2000 - European Networks for the next three years. He will be using archival research in banks and central banks to identify the dynamics of correspondent banking relationships in Europe, including the banks’ strategy and the impact of economic and political shocks.

Thibaud's research will concentrate on the development of the international payments system among several European financial centres, including Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels and Zurich. His particular interest lies in the use of correspondent relationships as a form of alternative internationalisation strategy and their role in the emergence of offshore financial centres.

He completed his PhD at the University of Lausanne on the historical development of banking supervision in Switzerland and Belgium during the 20th century, during which time he also held visiting positions at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and City University London, and in 2018-2020 was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Economic History at Uppsala University where his research project examined the origins of the fight against white-collar crime in the 1970s and 1980s.

We look forward to working with Thibaud on the GloCoBank project.
