CONFERENCE: European Historical Economics Society Conference 2023

GloCoBank researchers Alena Pivavarava and Marco Molteni will both be giving papers at the EHES Conference in Vienna on 1-2 September 2023 based on their GloCoBank research projects.

Alena's paper uses a novel large-scale dataset created using data from two annual bankers' directories over the period of 1879–1919: (1) the Rand McNally Bankers' Directory and Register and (2) Garland's Banks, Bankers and Banking and Financial Directory of Canada, to derive insights into the local expansion and global reach of branch networks of Canadian banks.

Marco's paper is based on his work with Wilfried Kisling which uses monthly data for the period 1889-1913 to examine the relationship between the London Money Market (LMM) and the credit provision of non-British overseas banks during the first wave of globalisation, specifically looking at the example of the German Brasilianische Bank für Deutschland in Brazil.
