Marco Molteni is an Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) in Economic History in the ESOMAS Department at the University of Turin. He maintains several international academic affiliations, serving as a Research Associate with the History Faculty at the University of Oxford, an Academic Fellow in the Department of Social and Political Science at Bocconi University, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Finance and Development at the Geneva Graduate Institute. Following his DPhil at Oxford (2021), he worked as a post-doctoral researcher for the GloCoBank project until 2023, focusing on the digitisation and management of the core historical database. He then moved to the Geneva Graduate Institute to work for the SNF project “The Historical Origins and Evolution of Modern Bond Markets, 1963–1994”. In October 2024 he was appointed Assistant Professor at the University of Turin.
His research continues to focus on quantitative financial and economic history, specializing in banking network dynamics, financial integration, and historical banking crises. In November 2025, he was awarded the prestigious Fondo Italiano per la Scienza (FIS) Starting Grant from the Italian Ministry of University and Research for his project, "FILHIPE - Financial Literacy in Historical Perspective" (FIS-2024-05508. €1.09 million).
